Boeing 777-300 accident report

Boeing 777-300 | Emirates | A6-EMW | burned out hull at Dubai airport, August 2016

Accidents with fatalities > no passengers died on board a 777-300. The only fatal accident with an 777-300 written of occurred on 3 August 2016.

Emirates 777-31H A6-EMW c/n 32700

SP Flight EK521 from Thiruvananthapuram int’l apt (TRV), India to Dubai (DXB) with 18 crew and 282 passengers. The aircraft impacted the runway during an attempted go-around at Dubai airport. Approached with 30° flaps and 152 kts approach speed to RW12L. Wind 340° at 11 kts. During approach the wind changed from a headwind component of 8 kts to a tailwind increasing to 16 kts. Touchdown 1100m beyond the RW threshold at 162 kts IAS. Landing long the crew initiated a go-around and the aircraft got airborne again. Reached a height of 85 ft at 134 kts IAS but then the aircraft sunk back on the runway with its landing gear retracted. The flight crew did not notice the engines thrust levers remained in idle position. Sliding over the runway one engine on the right hand wing separated and a fire started. Coming to rest an immediate evacuation was done.

All people on board survived the crash but 24 minor injured and 1 with serious injury in the evacuation. Sadly one firefighter was killed during the ARFF operation (Airport Rescue & Fire Fighting) when the centre fuel tank exploded and he was hit by flying aircraft parts. First flight : 2003
